Citrusy White Sangria Recipe

There's nothing quite as refreshing as a pitcher of sangria. No matter what time of the year, we can always count on sangria to bring people together. If the weather is warm, you could enjoy this refreshing beverage with friends as the sun beats down on you on the patio. And if it's cold out? You could always cozy up by the fire and sip the sangria as you lounge on the couch. Most of the time, people order sangria in a restaurant setting, but it's just as good (if not better) when it's homemade. This drink takes mere minutes to whip up, and the pitcher is enough for six glasses. You can even easily double or triple the recipe for a party.

Recipe developer Christina Musgrave came up with this citrusy white sangria recipe that will undoubtedly be a hit at your next gathering. "I love that this sangria is just a few ingredients and is super easy to make," Musgrave raves. "Most white sangrias are berry focused, so giving this white sangria a citrusy profile makes this uniquely delicious." Ah, refreshing! 

Gather the ingredients for this citrusy white sangria

The base of every sangria starts with wine; in this case, you will need a bottle of white. "A dry, crisp white wine like a Sauvignon Blanc is great. But use a white wine that you enjoy," Musgrave suggests. 

As you can tell from the title, this sangria is packed with refreshing citrus flavors. So, to complete your list, get a lime, lemon, orange, orange liquor, and some fresh thyme for serving. As for subs? "Definitely, you could use more citrus like grapefruit or blood oranges, or add berries," Musgrave notes. The more fruit, the merrier! 

Combine the ingredients and stir

For this step, you will need something to mix the sangria in. If you have a pitcher, that works well so you can also use it to serve the sangria in and you won't have to worry about dirtying too many dishes.

Next, add the white wine, lime slices, lemon slices, and orange slices. Use a spoon to stir well and combine the white wine with the citrusy fruits.

Add the orange liqueur

The only other liquid this recipe calls for is the orange liqueur, which you can add now. Stir well to combine it with the wine and fruit.

"The orange liqueur adds a sweet orange flavor to the sangria," Musgrave says of the addition. 

Fill glasses with ice and garnish

Grab a few serving glasses for you and your friends and fill them with ice. Pour the sangria into each glass and add a little sprig of thyme for garnish. "Thyme has a fresh herbal flavor that is a great complement to this sangria," Musgrave notes. "Mint would also be a great garnish." 

Serve and enjoy

Clink, clink! Now, you can sip this refreshing beverage. Is it just us, or does it taste like restaurant quality? 

This cocktail is great for a solo happy hour, but Musgrave provides a few of her favorite serving suggestions if you want to serve it with food. "This is great on a warm day with fish tacos, chips, and guacamole," Musgrave adds. 

Another plus? "You can make a few hours ahead, just don't add ice until right before serving, or else the drink will be watered down," Musgrave says. We hope you can enjoy this adult beverage with family and friends!
